Frequently Asked Questions about Hormones

1.  Does Insurance cover this?

No, insurance will not cover these services, but may cover hormone replacement therapy from your regular pharmacy.  Compounding pharmacy is typically not covered by insurance.

2.  Do hormones cause cancer?

No, they do NOT cause cancer.  If you have a close family history (like your mom or female sibling) of any hormone sensitive cancer, then you will be carefully evaluated to determine if HRT is right for you.

3.  Isn't it recommended to only take hormones for 1 year and then stop them?

No, there is no solid research stating it benefits our long term health by stopping HRT. In fact, women's health will significantly DECLINE in less than a year of stopping HRT.

4.  I had breast cancer, can I start hormones?

It depends on your diagnosis, the treatment you had, what your oncologist recommends, etc.  You will be carefully evaluated.  The research is variable when it comes to resuming HRT, but know there is ongoing research about this!  There are other NON-hormonal treatments available if HRT is not for you.

5.   I don't live in Arizona, can you still treat me?

You have to have an Arizona residence as I currently am only licensed in Arizona.  In the future, will work on obtaining multi-state licenses for practicing and prescribing medicine (within my scope of practice).
